Ken Wheeler Shield - 4 August

The Ken Wheeler Shield is a one-day level play GC tournament for teams representing the counties within the East Anglian Federation. Eligibility is by birth, residence or membership of a club within the county (for convenience both the Northampton and Stony Stratford clubs are regarded as being in Bedfordshire). Each team is made up of three players plus an optional reserve, and the team’s aggregate handicap must be 5 or more.

This year’s event was held at Colchester. Bedfordshire were represented by George Collin (1), Terrey Collis (2) and Marilyn Robinson (6), and the other teams were Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Suffolk. Play consists of a block phase of 12 doubles and 12 singles (13 point games) with one point for each win. There is then a Gold Medal round of six singles (19 point games) with three points for each win, and the winner is the team with the most points overall. All games have a time limit of one hour.

The tournament was won by Suffolk with 15 points, followed by Hertforshire (11), Cambridgeshire (10) and Bedforshire (6). Detailed results will appear on the EACF website in due course.
