Handicap Tournament 19-20 September

On the left, Geoff Johnson walks on to play in his game against Jonathan Toye, who is about to replace black having missed the shot at blue. Geoff eventually won +6, but this was Jonathan’s only loss and he was the overall winner. Richard Keighley awaits the chance to play his next shot.

Report by manager Geoff Strutt

Jonathan Toye of Downham Market won the Wrest Park September Handicap with an Egytian rating of 63, also having taken all but one of his matches [5 out of 6]. He was closely followed by Geoffrey Johnson with a rating of 62. Third came Colin Hemming with 56.

As well as enjoying unseasonal sunny weather, food, drink and the company were mutually appreciated. The handicaps ranged from scratch to 20 and fairly evenly distributed; so all standards were well represented.

On day two, David Marsh completed a triple peel against scratch player Bryan Harral. This is the first TP at a handicap event executed on our new lawns. Our visitors praised the speed and accuracy of the lawns which are much improved.

The whole event was run without time limits; but only two players failed to play 5 games while we had one player who managed to finish 7 games over the two days.

Triple peeler David Marsh.
