2021 GC Inter Club (Murphy) Shield

v Ashby (home)     21 June     lost 1-5

report by Ashby’s Mick Haytack

The final margin of victory did not reflect the closeness of most of the games. No fewer than twelve games finished 7-6 or 7-5. The weather was coolish but there were only a few drops of rain. The players were treated to a splendid display by the resident red kites.

Richard Keighley beat Colin Carr 4-6T, 7-5, 7-6

Richard Skidmore vs John Richardson 3-5T, 7-4 (unfinished)

Games were timed in rather murky threatening weather, which did not in fact materialise. The key moment in the morning session was the running of the golden hoop by Richard Skidmore to give Wrest Park a 2-1 lead..

In the afternoon, Glynis Davies rapidly extended that lead to 3-1 but both Rob Chatwin and Richard Keighley were taken to the golden hoop in their deciding singles games before providing Wrest Park with an emphatic victory by a rather flattering scoreline. Richard Skidmore and John Richardson agreed to leave their singles unfinished at one game all.

Thanks to Francis Lambert for managing the match.
