2022 Annual Dinner

The Annual Dinner, the first since 2019, was held at the Lower Stondon Golf Club on 25 November, and our thanks to Peter Aspinall for organising it and making the individual name and menu cards. There were 37 members present, which may be a new record.

Chairman David Woolley presented the trophies for the club competitions, all of which had somehow been concluded in time. Rather than record all the results here readers are referred to the list of winners which can be found on the Archive page. We would request this year’s winners, when they take the trophies to have their names and the year engraved on the plinth, to ensure that any missing names from previous years are engraved at the same time, the cost to be split accordingly.

The Chairman’s Award - in this case two - went to Eric Audsley for his seemingly everlasting work as Treasurer and to Gill Brewer for her achievement in being runner-up at the GC All England handicap final in her first year of competition and also for her work painting the inside of the pavilion (“and cakes” added Nick Boxall).

David also congratulated Glynis Davies for having been elected as the most improved female GC player in 2021, Wrest Park’s Beds & Herts League team for having won the League both this year and last, and Ross Bagni, Les Heard and Una Pengelly, the winners of this year’s GC Singles and Doubles tournaments.

The dinner took place while England were playing the USA in the World Cup, an event that received rather more publicity than the national croquet team’s participation in the Macrobertson Shield in Australia, taking place at the same time (and which England went on to win a few days later).
