Social Day 11 May

Warm sunshine and a full house, with all the lawns in use.

The Social Day was a great success, the main factor being unseasonably warm and sunny weather. We even had three visitors as a result of advertising in Silsoe News and elsewhere. There were competitions for short croquet and Pirates, and also the game involving hitting a lemon through hoops 1-6 and onto the peg. This was won by David Marsh with a score of 30 strokes, two short of the record held by Eric Audsley. The winners of the short croquet competition were Tim Nurse and Terry Collis, and David Marsh and Marilyn Robinson. Richard Keighley was crowned Pirate King.

Gill Brewer laid on a splendid lunch, and play continued in the afternoon, followed by the prizegiving. Many thanks to all those who helped with coaching and making our visitors welcome, and for setting up in the morning and clearing up at the end of an enjoyable day.
